Review Dyson DC23 Motorhead Stowaway Canister

The Dyson DC23 Motorhead Stowaway canister vacuum cleaner has a neat design where the hose and wand wrap around the vacuum for easy storage. It features Dyson’s level 3 Root Cyclone Technology, so it never loses suction power and does a jaw dropping job at removing deep embedded dirt from your thicker carpets, that is a startling contrast to what you are used to seeing with other vacuum cleaners. We tested the sealed HEPA filtration system to confirm that it expels only clean air. The HEPA filter is washable and the vacuum is bagless, which means no vacuum cleaner bag costs! We found that the bin to be hygienic and easy to empty. The Dyson DC23 Motor head comes with 3 easy to use floor tools to accommodate all types of flooring. The 13″ power head has motorized brush roll that can be turned off for bare floors, or you can choose to use the included hard floor brush or combination floor tool. Three accessory tools are neatly stored onboard and ready to use as needed.

Review:

Pros:

  • Compact canister with stowaway design is easy to store in a closet when not in use
  • Includes 3 floor tools and 3 accessory tools to handle all your cleaning needs
  • Good strong suction and motorized brush roller removes deep embedded dirt that other vacuums leave behind
  • Sealed HEPA filtration traps dust and dirt inside and expels only clean air into your home
  • Tri-scope telescopic wand easily adjusts to comfortably fit the user or task at hand
  • Large, clear dust bin is easy to see when it is full and easily empties from the bottom with no need to come into contact with the dirt
  • Bagless with a washable filter means no replacement costs

Cons:

  • Heavy when in the stowaway position with hose and wand wrapped around the canister and the floor attached to back – approx. 24 lbs
  • No suction speed adjustment may make it difficult to clean small rugs or curtains – brush bar is too powerful for use on natural fiber rugs
  • No carpet height adjustment on powerhead

Summary:

We are happy to add the Dyson DC23 Stowaway Motorhead Canister Vacuum Cleaner to our line up for multiple reasons. With superb suction power and the ability to remove deep embedded dirt from carpets we highly recommend it for homes with lots of carpet. It also easily passed our filtration test thanks to its sealed HEPA filtration and quality construction. Though it is expensive, you get a lot for you money and because it is bagless with washable filters you do not have to buy replacement bags or filters. The DC23 covers all your cleaning needs, including a motorized powerhead for carpets (brush agitation is too strong for use on natural fibers), contact floor tool for delicate rugs, and barefloor brush for smooth flooring. A crevice tool, dusting brush and upholstery nozzle are stored onboard and always in reach. The canister rolls smoothly on all floor types and the floor tools rotate 180° making it very easy to maneuver and reach into tight spaces. When you are done cleaning, just wrap and snap the wand, hose and tools into place and put it in the closet. Its stowaway design makes it ideal for homes that do not have large storage areas.
